This year, over 100,000 low-income individuals in Pima County will face a civil legal problem. 900 attorneys in Pima County are ready to help. Find out how Step Up to Justice is connecting volunteer attorneys with low-income individuals and families in need. Step Up to Justice is a full-service free civil legal center powered by the talents of volunteer attorneys. Through careful financial stewardship and technology designed to bring civil legal services to clients where and when they need them, Step Up to Justice builds connections between clients, attorneys and community partners. Step Up to Justice is ground-breaking, forward-thinking and committed to advancing efforts to secure equal access to justice for all.
Stacy Rupprecht Butler is an attorney and President of the Board of Directors for Step Up to Justice, a non-profit civil pro bono law center. She has been active in developing and supporting volunteerism in the Pima County legal community since 1998. Ms. Butler is employed as the permanent law clerk to the Hon. Jennifer G. Zipps, United States District Court, District of Arizona. She also serves as a Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law.
Attending the monthly luncheon at the YWCA this month? Please bring unopened packages of pads or tampons to donate to the YWCA’s Project Period. There is a collection box in the lobby of the YWCA. You may be thinking, “Hey AWLA – why is the YWCA collecting pads and tampons?” Well, they’re expensive. They’re not covered by food stamps. They’re taxed. Please help out people with periods who cannot afford to purchase them. For more information, click here.
Looking for an excuse to clean out your closet? We’ve got you covered. “Your Sister’s Closet” at the YWCA helps underprivileged women get interview and job ready. Bring your professional clothing to the September or October luncheon (seriously, so easy – you’re already going to be there) and make a difference in our community. Don’t have any clothes you’re ready to part with (trust me, I get it)? Feel free to make a monetary donation. For more information, click here. Want to learn more about the YWCA and/or other ways you can get involved? Feel free to contact Esther Brilliant at esther.brilliant@pima.gov.
