Guidelines for Contributing Authors

AWLA Newsletter Committee

Thank you for your interest in writing for the Southern Arizona chapter’s monthly newsletter. Your article will reach over 350 readers, including a large percentage of female attorneys and judges in Pima County. We also have male attorney and judicial members, as well as non-attorney readers in the business and academic communities.

Articles should be no longer than 1000 words. If you wish to submit an article that significantly exceeds 1000 words, please let us know, and we will determine whether it is suitable for publication in two consecutive newsletters. Our general practice is to publish articles as written. We will not alter the style or content of your article without first consulting you. We will, however, carefully edit your article for spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Due to time constraints, in the unlikely event that we discover an error of this nature, we will make the necessary revisions without consulting you.

We encourage you to submit a headline with your article, as well as a few paragraph headings throughout the article, in order to make a long article more readable. We will insert headlines and paragraph headings into all articles that need them. Given the pressures of pending deadlines, we may not have an opportunity to consult you before doing so.

All articles (along with a telephone number where we can reach you) must be received by 5:00 p.m. on the 20th of the month prior to the month of publication. If the 20th falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline is the immediately preceding business day. Articles may be submitted on disk or as an e-mail attachment (Wordperfect is preferred, but not required), or a hard copy can be mailed or faxed to:

Shannon Giles

sgiles@quarles.com

Telephone: 520-770-8729

Generally, an article submitted by the deadline will be published in the next newsletter. However, depending on available space and current events, publication of your article may be delayed. If this occurs, we will notify you immediately. If you intend to submit a time-sensitive article, please let us know.

Finally, if you have agreed to submit an article for a particular issue, please understand that we are counting on you. Notwithstanding our wide readership, this is a small publication, and last-minute substitutions can be difficult. If you are unable to meet the agreed-upon deadline, please contact Shannon Giles as soon as possible. With enough advance notice, we will be happy to accommodate you and schedule your article for a future issue. Thanks again, and we look forward to working with you.
