Please join us for a discussion on various considerations for boundaries around both working from home and returning to the office during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the Arizona stay-at-home order expired on May 15, 2020, many offices are still working from home, or are doing a soft return to the office, with significant work from home. As we look towards the continuing outbreak and a potential for additional outbreaks in the future, we need to re-assess our boundaries and make sure they are appropriate for the long run. We will be discussing some tips for setting work from home boundaries and habits, as well as considerations for returning to the office, from both a personal and management perspective. Office topics will include considerations for safety protocols, resource allocation, and guest policies.

Aubrey Coffey-Urban is the Programs Director for the Arizona Sustainability Alliance, a local sustainability nonprofit she co-founded, where she manages a team of volunteers. She also currently provides document review services with Elevate. Aubrey's experience in both environmental law and general practice combines with her environmental science background to provide a unique perspective. Her general practice experience includes estate planning, probate, landlord/tenant, collections, consumer finance, document review, and employment law. At Colorado College, Aubrey earned two degrees: one in environmental science and one in dance. She went on to earn her J.D. at the University of Colorado Law School. After moving to Arizona in 2014, she joined Arizona Women Lawyers Association, where she has been a member of the Maricopa Chapter Steering Committee for 3.5 years. During that time, she chaired the Chapter’s Professional Development Committee for 2 years and this year, she co-chairs the committee and serves the Chapter’s Steering Committee as Secretary.

Jessica Kokal joined Broening Oberg Woods & Wilson in 2016 to continue her insurance defense practice. Jessica’s practice includes the areas of commercial general liability, medical and professional liability, dram shop, products liability, premises liability, automobile liability defense and wrongful death and personal injury defense.  Since beginning her practice, Jessica has defended over 30 arbitrations and helped bring two jury trials to defense verdicts.  Jessica loves being in the courtroom and looks forward to continuing to successfully defend her clients at trial in the future. Before practicing law, Jessica moved to the Valley from the Detroit metropolitan area to attend Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University as a scholar recruit.  There, she received dual B.A.s in English Literature and Political Science while completing her Honors thesis on the media’s impact on women’s body image.  Jessica also worked in Arizona campaign politics before starting her insurance defense practice.  Jessica also serves as the chair of the firm’s recruitment committee/hiring partner, chair of the firm’s marketing committee, and diversity manager.

Karin Scherner Aldama
focuses her practice on complex insurance recovery matters. She has represented policyholders on a number of complex issues, including in successful London arbitrations under the Bermuda Form. In addition, Karin has extensive experience with complex commercial and appellate litigation. She has particular practice depth managing privilege law issues, including in the international context and with cross-border disputes. In her representation of Fortune 500, large and mid-size companies and governmental entities, Karin counsels clients operating in a wide range of industries, including the utility, aerospace, semiconductor and online real estate industries. In addition to her extensive experience in various state and federal courts, she provides representation in alternative dispute resolution, with an emphasis on international and domestic arbitration. Karin also frequently takes on pro bono immigration cases and represents indigenous detainees in immigration court as well as before the BIA and appellate courts. Karin is a member of the Board of Act One, a not-for-profit focused on providing access to the arts to students attending underfunded schools. She also sits on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) as well as on the Steering and Executive Committees of AWLA’s Maricopa Chapter and serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Maricopa County Bar Association.

Members must log in to the website to register for free.  Non-members may attend for $20; payment must be made within 30 minutes of registration, or the registration will be cancelled. Please check your email after registering, including spam/junk folders, for the Zoom call-in information.
